Top Features of Apple OS X Capitan
Spotlight:
Spotlight now lets users search for files and other content in natural language, and access new kinds of information such as weather, stocks, and public transit schedules. Some other system-wide feature additions include a Split View full-screen mode, a more streamlined Mission Control, and a series of upgrades to Chinese and Japanese language support, such as new fonts and better keyboard and track-pad input.
Safari:
Safari 9.0 now supports pinned tabs, pushing Web video via AirPlay, and muting tabs via the Smart Search field. Maps users can search for the aforementioned public transit info, and also push directions to an iPhone, much like Google Maps.
Photos:
The Photos app has been improved with support for third-party editing extensions, and more options for sorting albums and tagging faces and locations.
Email App:
Mail supports new iOS-style gestures for managing messages, and a Smart Suggestions addition will recognize names and events, allowing them to be quickly added to contacts and calendars. When in full screen, there are also tools to deal with multiple emails at one time.
MISSION CONTROL
Mission Control is OS X’s window management feature. Accessible though the Mission Control app or by hitting F3 on Macs, it displays all open apps on your Mac and allows them to be organized into different spaces. In El Capitan, Mission Control has a cleaner, more streamlined design for quicker window organization.
Split view
With Split View, it’s possible to run two full screen apps side-by-side, with each one taking up half of a display. This is a useful way to focus on two apps simultaneously without the distractions of the rest of your desktop. For example, when taking notes from a website, you might open Pages and Safari at the same time, scrolling through content on one side while writing on the other side.
Beachball
The iconic rainbow wheel pointer or “beachball” used to indicate when something is loading on OS X has been updated with El Capitan. It’s now flatter and it has brighter, more defined colors.
the following devices will updated in os x capitan
- iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
- MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)

Top hacks in mac os x capitan
Disable SIP to Get Your System-Level Utilities Working Again
System Integrity Protection (SIP), is a new feature in El Capitan that protects system processes and folders so even a root user cannot get access to them.
This is meant to protect your system against malware and other software that could mess with your computer. As you’d expect, this takes away some of your power as a user. Subsequently, you may run into problems with some utilities working with El Capitan. One example is the original version of Bartender, which has since been updated. Similar apps that change core features in OS X have the same problem, including TotalFinder and TotalSpaces. Most apps will likely update, but if you’re a power user and you’re comfortable turning the feature off, it’s possible. We do not recommend this unless you really know what you’re doing.
- Reboot your Mac into Recovery Mode by restarting your computer and holding down Command+R until the
- Apple logo appears on your screen.
- Click Utilities > Terminal.
- In the Terminal window, type in csrutil disable and press Enter.
- Restart your Mac.
SIP is now disabled. You can enable it at any by following the above instructions csrutil enable in for the Terminal command.
Rename files from the contextual menu
Now in El Capitan, you can easily rename files and folders using the contextual menu as follows:
- Open Finder.
- Locate a file or folder that you want to change.
- Control-click on the file (or right-click) to open the contextual menu for that item.
- Choose “Rename” from the contextual menu.
- Type in the new name.
- Hit the Return key to make the name change permanent.
Use Split View mode
You can easily work with two apps in a side-by-side orientation using the new split view in OS X EL Capitan. Here’s how:
- Click and hold the green fullscreen button in the upper left corner of an application window until the window shrinks and one side of your screen is highlighted.
- Drag the active window to the left side or right side of your screen depending on your preferences.
- Open the second app by clicking on one of the app thumbnails that appear in the opposite pane.
Bypass the Trash and delete files immediately
In OS X El Capitan, you can delete files immediately without sending them to the trash first. Any file that you delete using this method is gone forever and cannot be restored easily as this method bypasses the trash. Here’s how to delete a file immediately and permanently:
- Open a Finder window.
- Select the file you want to delete.
- Hold down the Option key on your keyboard.
- Select the File menu at the top of your screen while still holding down the Option key.
- Choose “Delete Immediately” from the file menu.
- OS X will ask you if you want to delete the file and will remind you that the deletion is permanent.
- Click “Delete” on the confirmation box to delete your file or “Cancel” if you have changed your mind.
