Most of my readers keep asking about best steps to follow if they have Slow computer and need to boost the speed. Though windows operating system having lots of inbuilt utilities and plenty of 3rd party utility applications, which can help users to boost speed of window based PC, but I afraid if few of them are dangerous or full of virus and I may not advise them unless you have full awareness of such applications.
There could be lots of Advance tips which can help you to speed up your Slow computer, but I am just starting with this topic and I don’t want my basic computer users to struggle a lot to understand technical terms and end up with more problems. Hence let us not go much technical in this tutorial and we will just start with Basic steps you can follow to improve the speed of your windows computer or laptop.

As most of the basic computer users know this and most of the professional suggest, Reboot is the very basic step you may follow whenever you feel your PC is running very slow. Simple logic behind rebooting your windows computer is to free memory which is highly consumed by heavy programs running on your windows operating system and thus that makes your computer’s performance poor. Rebooting PC will free all consumed memories and with fresh memory your PC start working normally.
   2. Windows Updates – Keep PC updated

Most of the time, Microsoft provides lots of updates which are patches to base operating system and by installing those updates you will have latest version of operating system with less internal bugs. Hence your operating system and it’s internal processes may consume less memory (RAM) and provide you more slots of your computer’s memory to be used with other required applications. I would strongly suggest to have licensed version of Microsoft Windows so that can be updated with regular updates.

If your hard drive is full and there is no free space, you will face severe slowness on your computer during regular use. It’s always recommend to have atleast 200-500 MB of free space to allow computer to have a room for temporary and swap files. If you have partition in your harddrive, you must monitor free space in C drive which is basically your computer’s system drive where your OS is installed and this drive needs more free space to perform faster.

Your system should be free from virus and malwares all the time. If you can’t afford to renew your antivirus which might have purchased earlier or came free for 1 year along with your computer or laptop, you may have to remove outdated version of antivirus and install working Antivirus software which comes free.    5. Remove Unused / Unwanted Programs

If you have installed lots of programs on your computer, you have to expect degraded performance for sure. Most of the basic users install lots of programs from free CD or using internet, but they might not need all of them in routine use. It’s always recommended to uninstall such unwanted programs. By removing such applications which are not needed will help free space as well as system memory sometimes.
